Pig - 4 weeks, 4 days

10 lbs 9 ozs, 23 inches

Pig went to her one month ped visit today, she's continuing to grow, an extra pound and inch since her last visit, so yay booby milk! She doesn't like shots, not that anyone enjoys them, but I was kinda hoping that she'd be stoic about doctor visits....since her omma is such a wimp about hearing her cry. Speaking of crying, there was one little girl, I'd say about a year old at least judging from her cries who was screaming at the top of her lungs while the doc was examining her. When I say screaming, I mean bloody murder, hair raising, cold sweat inducing screams. Holy pig. Papa Pig wasn't fazed by it but I sat there and realized that if I don't develop a thick skin fast, my kids are going to have me wrapped around their little fingers. All it would take is one loud public tantrum and I'd prob'ly do anything to make them stop, run amok, start throwing cash in their screaming direction. I can be pretty stern but that's when it's just normal whining, once they start sounding like a teakettle, all bets are off.

A Day with Pig

2:30 am - Pig begins to squirm and whine, Papa Pig sleepily pulls her out of her bassinet and feeds, burps and changes her.

4:00 am - I stagger downstairs to pump.

5:30 am - Pig's a wigglin', Papa Pig feeds and burps her and she's back down.

7:00 am - Papa Pig kisses Pig and I goodbye.

7:00 am - 8:30 am - Pig and I play the game of "please, please, please let mommy sleep a little bit more."

8:30 am - Pig wins, we make our way downstairs and I feed her. After a few burps and some rocking and singing, Pig's back down. I do my second pump and eat breakfast standing up in the kitchen.

9:00 am - Pig is back up.

9:15 am - Pig falls asleep

9:45 am - Pig is back up.

10:00 am - 12: 00 pm - Etc, etc, etc

12:30 pm - I pump frantically, eat my lunch at the same time while Pig is thinking about her next move.

1:00 pm - I turn on some Pig-friendly music and we dance about the living room together.

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm - She sleeps! I rush about washing bottles, pump parts, doing laundry, and then sit down to check email, catch up on news, and make phone calls.

4:30 pm - Pig wakes up and demands attention.

5:00 pm - Papa Pig comes home, I start dinner.

6:00 pm - We eat dinner, usually taking turns. I pump.

7:00 pm - 11:00 pm - Do dishes, wash bottles and sterilize pump parts. Go downstairs and watch some tv.

11:00 pm - ?? - Pig willing, to bed. Goo' Nite.

Pig: 3 weeks (20 days)

Laadddies and Gentlemen, in this corner weighing in at a whopping 9lbs and 9 ozs and 22 inches in length, we give you Piiig Don't-Call-Me-Babyface Czachor!!

Holy cow...pig. So Pig went in for her 3 week checkup and PKU today. I was a little bit nervous. Since I've been exclusively pumping breastmilk for her, figuring out her daily intake has been tricky. It varies widely since she's now pretty much on an on-demand schedule. Sometimes she'll take 3 ozs in one sitting. In the afternoon she nibbles, an ounce here, 2 ounces there. Then at night she really starts packing it in...preparing for a long night I guess? Also, she spits up around a mouthful or so a day (she likes to guzzle her food) so wasn't sure how that would factor in as well.

Lo and behold, 9lbs 9ozs and 22 inches. Compare this with 2 weeks ago when she was 8lbs 6ozs and 21 inches. I'm so pleased, all that on breastmilk, hooray! So I'm feeling pretty happy now, my baby is thriving, all is well with the world as far as I'm concerned.

So who is Quinn at 3 weeks?
Her eyes are starting to follow us around the room. She's fascinated by light and shadows cast on the ceiling. During the day, she loves to look out the window, eyes winking against the bright sunlight. She chuckles in her sleep and will occasionally bust out into a really broad happy grin which just kills me. She's a gassy thing, would put the sun to shame. She grunts and makes little bleating goat noises when she's working on moving a particularly stubborn load of gas/poop. She burps like a champ, usually all we have to do is sit her up and she lets out a wonderful face rattling belch.

Along with a few piddling poops a day, she manages to push out one HUGE diaper saturating poop a day. Her poops are like first cousins to her burps, one shakes her face, the other her bum. We've already had one projectile poop incident. My mom happened to be the one changing her, hehe. Her eyes are like her dad's (though Papa Pig doesn't think so), they're like a blueish/grayish/brownish. Sometimes, I swear she stares right up at me and seems to recognize her old roommate. Yup, that's right kid, I'm the one who brought you all those yummy bowls of fruit that made you the whopper you are today. She's got big feet and long fingers so we won't be sharing shoes or gloves...nor clothes for that matter.

While I can't wait until she gets to an age where being awake doesn't mean she's crying, I know I'll miss these first few weeks once they're over... you never forget how you fell in love with someone, you know?

Enter Pig...

Introducing....

Food..food...food

Now, I've always loved my food but pregnancy has turned me into a serious eater/glutton. Every morning Pig and I wake up starving. Before I get up to use the potty, we lie there and ponder our breakfast options. I hate to admit it but if I know that there's something yummy in the fridge waiting for us I just know that my day will be that much nicer. I can make a feast out of a couple eggs and toast, but a bowl of assorted fresh berries and yogurt will get me toddling down the stairs as fast as my swollen feet can take me. And ok, even more embarrassing to admit, while I'm eating one meal, I'm planning and talking about the next. So, no huge surprise, I have a mental list of stuff I want to eat after Pig's birth:
  • Cheese, especially stilton, gorgonzola, and feta
  • Sushi rolls of all kinds and gorgeous slices of tuna
  • Monkfish (agu jjim)
  • Smoked salmon on an onion bagel
Stuff I'd love right now...like right this second

34 Weeks and 6 days

That's right, tomorrow I will be officially 35 weeks along, yay! In the meantime, if anyone would like to see what a grumbling, groaning beached beluga whale looks like, come over to our house in the wee hours. I cannot even believe how long it takes me to roll out of bed in the morning to use the bathroom....actually it's a shimmy and a half roll. By the time I get to the edge of the bed, my nightshirt is around my neck...yep, classy.

Our house is still a horrible mess. K is working on the flooring in the Pig's room and will hopefully be finished this week so that we can move Pig's things up to her room. The dogs have been grimly watching the slow accumulation of new things and since they're prone to overreaction it's better if we hurry and get the stuff out of the way, well before Pig's arrival.

Speaking of dogs, Kirby is an ass. Yes, I know, what else is new right? During a vigorous chewing session with his nylabone he managed to fracture a tooth. We didn't know until recently because it didn't affect his appetite, his nose remained pink and sticky, and he continued to gallivant about the house like the total dorkus that he is. Also, his breath is usually bad enough to burn down a house so we didn't notice any marked difference in odor. It wasn't until we saw a looong, disgusting thread of drool hanging off his jowls that we realized something was wrong. So off he went to one vet where we were quoted $440 for some exploratory surgery which could lead to the $700 extraction surgery. WTF? So then we went to another vet hoping for better news...$750-$800 for the extraction. Great googly-moogly.

You know when we were little, my sister and I used to do the tie-the-loose-tooth-around-the-doorknob-bit, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I wonder now if my parents truly appreciated the type of dental self-help H and I employed. All it cost them was a dollar under the pillow and some lost sleep when we came running into their room at 2 am screaming that the tooth had finally fallen out and that there was blood everywhere.

Luckily, we were able to find another place to do the procedure for $500 but hey still no drop in the bucket. We've said adios to the nylabones but knowing Kirb something else will come up, forget Marley and Me, K and I can make a fortune with our memoir, "Kirby and Us: How our Yellow Lab drove us to the poorhouse."
